04/25/08: CIL's OPen house is a huge success

CIL Open House

CIL Board member Raymond Garcia, Fresno Fax Transit, Carlos Duarte (right) and CIL Board member Mary Long were part of the flow of community members who had a closer look into the programs and services at CIL's recent Open House.

03/26/08: Bob Hand Appointed to State Rehabilitation Council

Governor Schwarzenegger appointed the Executive Director of CIL Fresno, Bob Hand, to the State Rehabilitation Council (SRC). The SRC works as a partner with the administration of the State Department of Rehabilitation in strategic planning, budgeting and monitoring the services provided by DOR throughout California.

Bob is the only person in the Central Valley area who has been appointed to this council. The SRC meets quarterly in Sacramento, with teleconferencing for committee meetings between the full council meetings. Bob has attended two meeting to date, working with Tony Sauer, the Director of DOR; Luciana Profaca, the Chief Deputy Director, and other significant decision makers in Sacramento.

Bob is asking anyone who has issues they would like addressed at the state level for DOR to contact him. He will pass them on to the appropriate individuals. READ MORE

The Center for Independent Living - Fresno is pleased to announce their newest facet to assist clients in their quest for autonomy. CIL-Fresno is now officially venderized to provide services to clients of the Department of Rehabilitation in the State of California. READ MORE

06/01/08: PG&E offers discounts through their care and fera programs

You may be eligible for discounts on your PG&E services through the following two programs:

  • California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) Program provides a 20% discount on your monthly energy bill for qualifying households.
  • Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) Program provides savings on your electric bill for large households of three or more persons with low-to middle-income.

04/01/08: Community Partnership - Universal Lifeline Telephone Service

The Center for Independent Living-Fresno has partnered with the community agency, Consumer Action, to assist low-income individuals and families with disabilities apply for the Universal Lifeline Telephone Services.

This program keeps low-income households connected to phone service for half the cost of basic residential service. This program provides a discount on telephone connection charges and a discount on the monthly telephone service charge.

The income amounts vary depending on household size. For example, the maximum annual income for a one to two person household is $22,000. If you have or need a home phone and feel that you may be eligible for this low-income discount, do not hesitate to call us.

04/01/08: Accessible Parking Spaces Added

Accessible Parking Space

Three parking spaces for people with disabilities were installed after the City of Merced and CIL Merced collaborated to bring required parking for the community.
