For over 30 years, the Center for Independent Living - Fresno has worked with consumers to promote their independence in the community. CIL's service area includes the five counties of Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Madera & Merced.
CIL Fresno's Charter
At least 51% of employees at CIL have disabilities. Also, at least 51% of CIL's Board of Directors have disabilities.
The center vests power and authority in people with disabilities and is designed by and for the local disability community. CIL realizes that people with disabilities don't need "to be taken care of" but rather need to be empowered to make their own choices and manage their own lives. READ MORE

CIL Fresno is part of the Center for Disability Innovation. CIL Fresno is working together with the CSU Fresno Rehabilitation Counseling Program, the San Joaquin District DOR office and others to form the new Center. READ MORE
The Center will combine (1) research in best practices for services for people with disabilities, (2) the education of graduate level students in Rehabilitation Counseling and university students in other disability-related fields, and (3) direct services to people with disabilities through CIL Fresno, job placement services, and counseling services.
Consumer Spotlight - Chris Anderson
Navigating a computer these days can be tough. Nobody knows this better than Chris Anderson, who took on the task of learning how assistive technology could allow him to use the computer in the AT lab at the CIL Fresno.
Camille Gaston, CIL’s official Dragon Tamer, worked with Chris to learn Dragon Naturally Speaking, a voice recognition program which allows Chris to use the computer with his voice instead of a mouse.

Peer Support @ CIL Fresno - Peer support meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, from 2:00pm to 3:30pm at the CIL Fresno office.
